My favorite fashion trends for Fall 2020 – the slimmed-down, feminine work suit – is inspired by the Nineties. The Nineties were pretty good to me. I was in love, I lived in Manhattan and a new episode of Friends was on every Thursday night. We used to curl up together in the loft with Chinese food and watch.
The Nineties
And I had a Calvin Klein work suit with a long, collarless jacket and matching wide leg pants. That suit was perfect with the nylon messenger bag from Kate Spade. The Nineties made me feel like the whole night-time city – from traffic lights on Broadway to the Empire State Building – was lit up just for me. And the slim suit fashion trend for Fall 2020 is bringing me back to those days!
The Eighties
The Eighties are also a big fashion trend for Fall 2020. Unfortunately, the Eighties were a bit dark for me. I spent most of high school desperately seeking a seat in the lunchroom and worrying about boyfriends. But so many people loved the Eighties or missed living it. If that’s you, look for slouchy boots, batwing sweaters, big sweatshirts, chain necklaces and hoop earrings, puffy sleeves, all-over or washed down denim, dropped waists and high waists, ruffled tulle skirts, mini skirts, oversize jackets with a bra showing and cropped blazers.
2020
And now back to current times. Those cargo jackets, belted trenches, maxi dresses and biker jackets from previous seasons are still on. All shades of military olive, toasty tan and warmed up beige are still here. But new colors are coming along that are bolder and brighter. Red, fuchsia, marigold, tangerine, chartreuse, way bright blues in all hues and bits of black and rose are fashion trends for Fall 2020.
Look at me!
Statement making, get attention looks are a fashion trend for Fall 2020. Richly colored leather, snakeskin boots, one shoulder tops, baby doll dresses, metallic fabric, and tops with cutouts will get your noticed in a great way. There will also be ruffled and pleated dresses and long, slinky column gowns in sheer fabrics made of fishnet, gauze or chainmail.
Boho
We also have a modern boho trend for Fall 2020. Knee-length shorts look cool in a cowgirl kind of way when paired with booties. Knee-high boots will go over skinny jeans (or wide leg suit pants if you’re daring) and there will be fringe, floral skirts, patchwork, ponchos, shearling coats and classic shirts matched with tailored blazers.
Last – my least favorite fashion trend for Fall 2020 – is the mock neck sweater. It doesn’t go right with my shape or style so I’m leaving it on the hanger.
