The Best Outfits for Fall are Casual and Cozy
Although Fall runways were happily showing matched suits for women again, it’s pretty safe to say that most people are going to continue wearing casual outfits. In some cases, casual has gotten a bad rap as people dress in outfits that make them look like they don’t care.
That’s not what I’m talking about here. The emphasis is on “outfits” – that is casual outfits that are well thought out and put together to express your personal style and get you all the compliments you could possibly want.
This season there are some lovely individual pieces that will help you create stylish, reliable, and updated casual outfits. I think you’ll be excited!
- Puffer Jackets
Puffer jackets are practical, functional and stylish and make such a statement out of a regular outfit. When you see what’s in the stores now you’ll see a big difference between this year’s version and the version you bought ten years ago. One difference is that there’s more volume in puffers now. Yes, they’re bulkier but they are also fabulously lightweight and designed to flatter your shape. It’s a new look and you may want help with it but it’s a great piece to work a casual wardrobe around.
Corduroy is back in style and ready to live large in your closet. Look for classic corduroy in pants in tan or black for easy and updated outfits. They’ll look great with colorful tops, bomber jackets or leather coats. Or try a cool, seventies-style corduroy blazer over bell-bottoms. Extra style points will also be given for those who dare to wear this seasons umbria color (it’s a burnt orange) in corduroy pants with a denim blazer and a white fitted shirt!
Shearling is in abundance and shows up as an accent on shoes, in the linings of all kinds of jackets (wool, denim, leather) or as a eye-catching piece of outerwear all on its own. This will be an easy addition to an outfit using your favorite denim or leather jeans, boots and knit tops.
- Racing Striped Pants
If you like to wear black and white together in your outfit, purchase this athletic inspired pant in black with a white racing stripe. You could pair this with a white shirt or have some fun and add a bold color knitted top to these pants. If you feel a little shy about this ath-leisure trend, look for a pant that matches the stripe to your top. This isn’t such a shocking look anymore; it’s become more mainstream. It’ll look great paired with a slouchy sweatshirt or loose knit sweater.
- Layered Necklaces
Layering necklaces is an easy way to make your casual outfits more special. Layer chains or pendants of different lengths. If you want more drama add even more layers or layer necklaces that are chunkier. Visit your jewelry drawer and have some fun. This is the time to rediscover items you’ve owned forever and recycle them into outfits now.
If you never thought of yourself as a hat person before then this is the season to try a beret. It’s not oversized or bulky and goes with just about any hairstyle. It’s the perfect accessory as it is not too eye-catching but still adds an element of interest to a casual outfit.
- Oversized Bags
No need to worry about how you’re going to run all of your errands with just a tiny purse since large handbags are very on-trend this season. They are the perfect accessories for a casual outfit. Throw one over your shoulder and tackle your To-Do list for the day. They’ll be in all kinds of colors and fabrics so consider more than one to finish your fall looks.
Helpful hint: Use smaller pouches to organize the things you carry in your bag so you don’t lose time and patience looking for what you need.
Denim is here to stay this season; from shirts to dresses to capes, this fabric is much loved by designers. Is it time for you to do a denim update and add it to your outfits? Absolutely! Jeans and jean jackets are getting new looks. There’s a lot of embellishment going on! That could be your new addition to your casual wardrobe. Also remember that denim comes in colors and in black, and white too. Interested in a unique way to wear denim this year? Look for a long denim coat or a trench coat that’s long or hip-length in denim.
- Elongated Sweaters
No need to worry about how to layer your cropped sweater this season because sweaters are now reaching new, long lengths. Elongated sweaters and oversized sweaters will be hard to ignore and an important part of your coziest outfits. You may need to fiddle with the proportion of these sweaters to get it right so keep your stretchy belts on hand when you try this look on. And layered necklaces will be great with these!
- Cable Knit Sweaters
A classic item, the cable knit sweater, is on the trend list. What says fall better than a cable knit sweater outfit? It’s time to get cozy! Look for cable knit in cardigans as well as pullovers.
I’m very excited about these pieces this season and would love to help you fit them easily into your casual wardrobe. Let’s schedule an appointment now for late September or early October and get into your own personal style groove before we go into winter!
